Pregnancy related low back pain is a common condition occurring during 60-70% of pregnancies. Low back pain may occur at any point in pregnancy from early in the first trimester right until delivery. It may be due to a number of causes including disc compression, facet joint syndrome, SI joint and pelvic pain, and diastasis recti.
Both Physiotherapy and Chiropractic care are safe and effective ways to manage this pain using manual therapy, specific exercises, and taping techniques. Education regarding posture and positioning is essential, and for some a pregnancy or SI belt may be useful in relieving pain.
